Republic of the Congo
Congolese football authorities have reached a deal with Pierre Lechantre. The Frenchman becomes the country’s next coach in an announcement made today.
Lechantre is set to sign a contract next week, at which more details of what officials say will be an exciting tenure will be made.
He replaces compatriot Claude Le Roy, who exited in November.
The 65-year-old coached Cameroon and Mali in the past; his most recent job was with Libyan club Al Ittihad Tripoli.
Congo are currently top of their group in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, leading Zambia on goal difference after two matches.
Lechantre’s first games in charge will be against Zambia in March, Kenya and Guinea Bissau.
Congo are also in June’s draw for the final round of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
